REPORTS TO: SVP, Director of Loan Review & Special Assets

SUPERVISES: None

 

 

Position Summary:

 

Serves as a paralegal supporting the Internal Legal Counsel, Special Assets and Loan Review staff. Provides legal and administrative support related to foreclosures, settlement agreements and other commercial contracts. Perform a variety of clerical duties requiring knowledge of departmental procedures, loan policy, and regulatory guidelines. Maintains and sets up files on each project and ensures that information is complete and accurate. This position performs a variety of paralegal work, such as drafting contracts and other legal documents, under the supervision of Counsel.

 

Duties:

 

  1. Assists with all legal action related to bank loans and special assets.

  2. Draft pleadings and other legal documents including, but not limited to, complaints, summons, motions for summary and default judgment, affidavits, proofs of claim, etc.

  3. Assist in preparing and filing legal pleadings in federal, state, and bankruptcy courts electronically, via the U.S. Mail, or in person.

  4. Assists Internal Legal Counsel, Special Assets, Loan Review, and other departmental staff as needed.

  5. Support legal department with regulatory and litigation matters, including responding to discovery requests, tracking deadlines and assisting with legal processes.

  6. Prepare specified forms, letters, and other legal documents (under supervision) by performing word processing and document editing procedures.

  7. Conduct basic legal research using online tools.

  8. Provide administrative support and assist with special projects, as assigned.

  9. Corporate file creation/maintenance and record keeping for a variety of legal proceedings.

  10. Assist with real estate transaction documents including leases and contracts

  11. Assists Counsel with fact gathering in order to support legal analysis and corporate governance activities.

  12. Addresses legal inquiries and responds to requests for information, with input from Counsel, as necessary.

  13. Research loan and collateral documents and prepare well-organized special assets files.

  14. Administratively assist special assets and loan review officers by researching loan information, making tickets, changing accounts, codes, etc. as needed.

    Relationships/Qualifications:

     

  1. 2 year degree in Paralegal studies or 2-3 year’s experience in performing paralegal support services preferred.

  2. Ability to read, understand and interpret complex regulations, laws, agreements and organization materials.

  3. Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact in dealing with the public, and in giving and obtaining information.

  4. Strong time management skills (use time effectively, consistently meet deadlines).

  5. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet. Able to effectively adapt to and use other computer systems as needed for daily activities.

  6. Excellent writing skills including the ability to proofread and edit legal documents.

  7. Highly organized and capable of creating and maintaining well-organized filing systems used by the legal, special assets and loan review departments.

  8. Ability to organize information and communicate both orally and in writing with all levels of employees and management

  9. Ability to exercise judgment, initiative and discretion in confidential and sensitive matters
