STAFF ACCOUNTANT - CONVERSE

 

 

DEPARTMENT: Finance

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Controller

SUPERVISES: None

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of professional level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records, and reports; assists in the preparation of the annual audit and year end closing; and handles basic accounting inquiries from bank staff.

 

 

DUTIES:

Transactional

  1. Prepare daily and monthly account reconciliations, which include the Federal Reserve Bank account, correspondent bank accounts, other assets, other liabilities, equity, tax accounts, internal DDA accounts and intercompany accounts
  2. Responsible for calculating and maintaining adequate accruals for FDIC premiums, real estate and personal property taxes, audit and compliance fees, and purchase accounting discounts/premiums
  3. Monitor the Bank’s prepaid accounts for proper amortization periods and recording
  4. Maintain the Fixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules on FAS Software System, record monthly journal entries; insure proper recording of new purchases and disposals
  5. Perform month end close duties as follows: review loan origination fees for proper recording, prepare a performing loan discount/premium re-class entry, record accretion balances for purchase credit impaired loans, record Insurance subsidiary entries, and verify that all financial reports are in balance
  6. Prepare tax schedules to be used in the quarterly estimate process as well as tax return preparation, these include: lease payments schedule, compilation of Michigan municipal balances, prepare quarterly tax transfer documentation, compile necessary work papers to update the deferred tax inventory schedules
  7. Perform limited investment related tasks, which include inputting purchased bonds into the bond accounting system (FTN), and preparing the semi-annual safekeeping reconciliation.
  8. Monitor and ensure proper posting of block entries which post on the 15th of the month, which include entries for trust preferred debt.
  9. Prepare roll-forward of activity for all purchase credit impaired loans (PCI) on a monthly basis. Also responsible for pulling information for completion of the financial statement footnote.
  10. Prepare quarterly cash flow analysis for all PCI credits. Cash flow assumptions to be provided by Loan Review department.
  11. Complete weekly and monthly intercompany settlements (SCI)
  12. Update Public Relations Spreadsheet.
  13. Perform review of loan participations for proper sale treatment (FAS166)
  14. Pull necessary documents for completion of the Low Income Housing Impairment Calculation.
  15. Responsible for adding new general ledger accounts to the core system and updating all FMS reports to incorporate addition
  16. Will serve in a backup capacity for Accounts Payable and verification of reconciliation completeness.
  17. Perform a quarterly analysis on mortgage loans held for sale to determine LOCOM, and any derivative impact to be recorded

 

Regulatory Reporting

  1. Prepare and submit necessary regulatory filings, which include FR 2900 Reporting, Deposit Reclassification, and Summary of Deposits

 

Vendor Reporting

  1. Assist the Treasury function of the Finance department with necessary reporting requirements which include: Reich & Tang reporting & monitoring, Reporting to Indiana Board of Depositories for Public Funds and CDARS settlement
  2. Compile and submit necessary tax filings, which includes Sales and Use Tax Reporting (Indiana, Illinois and Michigan), Business Personal Property returns
  3. Assist in compiling requested information for any state/federal tax audits
  4. Compile all of the real estate and personal property tax assessments and ensure that all are processed and paid timely. Compare tax due to prior years and communicate significant differences to management

 

Financial Reporting

  1. Prepare and provide requested documentation for external and internal audit firms and examiners
  2. Accurately prepare financial statement footnotes (Fixed Assets, Goodwill & Intangibles, Interest-bearing deposits, and Employee benefit plans)
  3. Compile all necessary financial statement data for completion of the annual report.

 

Other

  1. Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time
  2. Perform Reg. F review on a quarterly basis

 

 

RELATIONSHIPS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Responsible to the Controller for the fulfillment of duties assigned
  2. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a Bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting, is required
  3. Must be highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel (intermediate skills)
  4. Must have strong technical skills, excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills
  5. Must have excellent work habits which include the ability to meet deadlines and be able to prioritize task list
  6. Ability to apply strong problem solving techniques and have a desire to learn new skills
